Potomac Announces 6 Transactions: Singapore, Anticimex, Canada, and Brad Harbison of PCT Magazine and No Severed Horse Head

As we slowly begin to move into pest control M&A season, we’re pleased to announce six transactions:

Brad Harbison’s (Managing Editor, PCT Magazine) Pest Control Business was Acquired by (…wait for it…) in a Competitive, Strategic Sale Process

What pest control company ensures that the home of industry glitterati and managing editor of PCT Magazine remains pest-free?

You’re gonna have to wait for that one… We won’t be announcing the transaction today and instead we’ll let Brad do that next week in PCT Magazine. We like Brad a lot and we never want to talk about anyone else’s pest control provider behind his or her back, so we’ll let him talk about it next week.

Singapore: Anticimex Acquires Clean-Environ Pest Management

We’re pleased to announce that our client Clean-Environ Pest Management of Singapore was acquired by Anticimex of Sweden. Last year Potomac entered Asia and currently provides valuation, strategy and M&A advice to a variety of pest control companies in Japan, China, Southeast Asia and Australia — we cover Asia and the Middle East, among other areas, through our new operations in Switzerland.

There have been rumors for the last three years that Anticimex intended to enter the US market and this again became a topic of conversation at the recent PCT Top 100 Award ceremony. Over the last year, Anticimex has taken a look at a few of our North American clients and now that we’ve had an opportunity to work intimately with Anticimex in Singapore, I’ll be providing my thoughts as to whether or not they’re ready to play in the big leagues (the North American market) and why you may or may not want to consider dealing with them.

Canada: Orkin Canada Acquires Lloyd Pest Control

We’ve recently advised on the sale of Lloyd Pest Control to Orkin Canada. I really, truly enjoyed working with the shareholders of Lloyd. Like most of our clients, they become lifelong friends and in many cases, future business partners. I wish the Collins family and their team at Lloyd Pest / Orkin Canada the very best in the future.

As well, I truly appreciate the post-transaction comments of COO Nancy Collins’ — thank you Nancy: “Paul is the bridge to your future. Trust him, lean on him, do your part, respect the process and he will get you to the other side. Any journey starts with the first step, engage Potomac and let the adventure begin. We were so fortunate to have found a business like Potomac and the man Paul Giannamore!”

Orkin Acquires EcoShield of Colorado, Sacramento and Santa Clarita

I’ve lost count on the number of transactions we’ve advised EcoShield on over the years. These three deals are probably 8, 9 and ten.

With north of $30 million in revenue, EcoShield is one of the fast growing pest control companies in the world and I am proud to call the shareholders my close, personal friends.

In this market you’ve always got to be asking yourself, “Am I the best owner of my assets?” Many times the answer is “yes.” However, the last six months, unlike any time in modern history, has caused a lot of sellers to say “no, at that price, I am no longer the best owner of my assets.”

When we took these three businesses out to market, in this particular case, at this particular time, Orkin made us an offer were couldn’t refuse. And guess what, luckily for us, it didn’t include a severed horse head in any of our beds.

Keep horse heads out of your bed…
